WEP: World Event Productions

WORLD EVENTS PRODUCTIONS

Overview

Founded in 1982 to meet the ever-growing need for the development of quality television entertainment, World Events Productions has continued to be a leader in technological innovation and programming excellence. 2002 marked 20 years that World Events Productions, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, has been on the cutting-edge of top quality entertainment production and international distribution and 2004 marked the 20th anniversary celebration of Voltron, a leading World Events Production property that topped the charts in the 80’s and generated a loyal fan following that still exists today. Today, World Events Productions properties are licensed throughout the world with presence in more than 60 countries.

World Events Productions aggressively strives to be the leader in television production. The company has created, produced and distributed several award-winning series distributing a total of 227 half-hour episodes. Released in 1984, the first of these was Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The series quickly skyrocketed to be the number one children’s program in the United States and around the world. Merchandising rapidly followed and more than 100 different Voltron products were on shelves around the world.

Denver, The Last Dinosaur, the company’s second production, was an instant hit. This program was recommended by the National Education Association for its engaging, non-violent storylines. World Events Productions also produced Saber Rider and The Star Sheriffs, the first true interactive animated series, and Vytor, The Starfire Champion, an International Film and Video Festival and a New York Festival Award winner.

World Events Productions’ latest program, Voltron: The Third Dimension, was the first full 3D CGI series produced solely in the United States. Produced by the creators of Babylon 5 and the Prince of Atlantis, this Voltron series contains action-packed storylines that appeal to viewers of all ages. In 1999-2000, this Daytime Emmy Award winning series was ranked number one among weekly syndicated kids in the United States. The show currently airs in 40 percent of the world and continues to host successful toy and home video lines.

World Events Productions anticipates that the best is yet to come. With the renewed interest and recent success of resurrected superheroes from the 1980’s, Voltron is poised to launch its global return. A Voltron DVD collection is already on shelves as well as a collectible toy line, several apparel lines, a comic book collection, and a collectible shoe line by Reebok. The show also appears daily on Boomerang/Cartoon Network, a move that has pleased fans and kids alike. In addition, WEP is working on a new interactive Voltron series. Stay tuned!
